SS Educational Services

Guy Fawkes Night

Each month one of the Directors and Alex (our Digital Marketing Apprentice) sit down and plan all the blog posts for the following month. The posts are broken down into 2 main areas. The first group is information for apprentices, employers and training providers to understand more about SS Educational Services and our End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO), and to hopefully inform their decision to choose SSES to deliver their End Point Assessments.

The second group is about the sector. One of our ‘Unique Selling Points’ is that SSES is a niche, sector-specific EPAO for the early years, children, young people and families. We therefore want to include information about this. They may be posts that support Early Learning Goals for the Early Years, such as this one, or the Halloween post. They may feel relevant to one of the team – such as National Adoption Week and Disability Awareness Day. Or if there is a big news item that impacts on our sector.

We all hope you like the varied posts, and if you have any feedback, or something you would like us to post about, please ask.

Onto Guy Fawkes, also known as Guido Fawkes, has been taught in schools for many years. In brief, he was one of a group of people who attempted to blow up Parliament, known as The Gunpowder Plot. To celebrate the failure. We annually celebrate by having bonfires and fireworks. So, how can this celebration support the Early Learning Goals? Keeping holistic play and learning in mind, you can see how some of these activities cross over into other ELGs:

  • Communication and Language – words to describe the fireworks sights and sounds
  • Physical Development – Using ‘instruments’ to make sounds like fireworks; Waving ribbons on sticks; mark making firework pictures
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Loud noises can be scary for children, adults, pets; Shine by Sarah Asuquo; It Was a Cold Night by Tim Hopgood
  • Literacy – Verse ‘Remember, Remember the 5th of November’; Shine by Sarah Asuquo; It was a Cold Dark Night by Tim Hopgood
  • Mathematics – How many people are going to firework displays; firework shape matching
  • Understanding the World  – How does the bonfire light? Safety around the bonfire and sparklers; Guy Fawkes for Kids by Andrew Thompson
  • Expressive Arts and Design – Splatter painting making firework pictures
