SS Educational Services

Children, Young People & Families L5

Last week we posted about the Children, Young People and Families Practitioner, Level 4. Today SSES are going to look at the other standard in this group of standards, Children, Young People and Families, Level 5.

The IfATE (Institute for Apprentices and Technical Evaluation) describe the overview of the role as ‘Manage Teams to help and advise families that need support’. In line with the Level 4, as they were approved for delivery at the same time, the standard is being revised, but the information contained within our blogpost is correct at the time of publication. The apprentice will be a manager within a residential setting or the community. The IfATE explains as a manager you will ‘ensure direction, alignment and commitment within your own practice, your teams, your organisation and across partnerships to help children, young people and families aspire to do their best and achieve sustainable change’.

As with the Level 4 there are 2 pathways, where the apprentice will complete all the core knowledge, skills and behaviours, and then chose one of 2 options to supplement the core programme, either Option 1 Manager in Children’s Residential Care or Option 2 Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community.

This apprenticeship typically takes around 24 months (less for experienced managers) to complete and get to Gateway. The employer confirms that the apprentice is working at, or exceeding Level 5, and is ready for their End Point Assessment (EPA). As SS Educational Services very much believe that ‘Focusing on the End is the Key to Success’, the apprentice will be prepared for the EPA, and the employer will have all the information and documentation needed to complete Gateway easily. The apprentice will hopefully look at the End Point Assessment as an opportunity to showcase the knowledge, skills and behaviours they have gained through the apprenticeship.

The apprentice will undertake two End Point Assessments:

  • Situational Judgement Test and a
  • Competence Interview which is underpinned by the portfolio built during the apprenticeship

SSES has a small team of Independent End-Point Assessors, with extensive experience in Residential Childcare. They have a professional approach to the EPA whilst putting the apprentice at ease.
